My family recently returned from a 10-day trip back east. I wrote about the Engaged Encounter national convention we attended and I also detailed the week we spent with family in Myrtle Beach. However, I haven’t mentioned what we did between those two major portions of our vacation.
Now is the time to tell. And it has to do with baseball and fudge.

We had a great time on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026. We went to an Atlanta Braves game, ate custard at Freddy’s, and shopped at Buc-ee’s.
Once the convention wrapped up on Sunday morning, we hopped in my in-laws’ vehicle and drove to a parking garage near The Battery, a lifestyle entertainment complex adjacent to Truist Park. With tickets to the Atlanta Braves game that afternoon, we did a little exploring before entering the stadium.
After first scoping out a couple clothing outlets and a candy store, we went inside Punch Bowl Social where the kids could play the arcade games and the adults could drink some beverages. But it was the mozzarella sticks that brought both groups together. 😂
We then entered Truist Park to watch the Braves host the Washington Nationals. After visiting T-Mobile Park to watch the Mariners play exactly two weeks prior, we couldn’t help but notice one major difference between the ballparks: concourse room! We could actually walk around Truist Park without feeling squeezed by thousands of fans.
Our family sat in some great seats in the second deck above the right field line. It was humid and hot but nothing some ballpark ice cream and a Braves win couldn’t solve.
The kids enjoyed watching the on-field promotions, especially the tool race and “The Freeze” showdown. I appreciated just the chance to watch another MLB game with my wife.
After the game, we started on the nearly six-hour drive to Myrtle Beach. Of course with a drive of that duration, you are going to make a couple stops when you have kids traveling with you. We stopped for dinner in North Augusta at Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers. I didn’t even bother with the later as I just ordered a Reese’s “concrete” custard for my dinner.
The next stop would come a few hours later when we pulled into the Buc-ee’s parking lot in Florence, SC. Although my family had never set foot in a Buc-ee’s before, we weren’t immune from the hype. We were beyond excited to check it out.

Dreams do come true! Beau, Sid, and Sloan stand outside Buc-ee’s moments before we went inside for the first time.
I must say, our experience lived up to the Buc-ee’s billing. That place seemed to have everything! From food to drinks to toys to merchandise, it was very impressive. I got myself a blue coconut soda and cookie dough pieces (as if the custard earlier wasn’t enough) while Sid got a beach towel, Sloan got candy, and Beau got a football. My mother-in-law purchased some muffins and a couple different flavors of fudge that tasted so fresh and delicious. I don’t know when I will ever have the chance to shop at a Buc-ee’s again but I will absolutely pull off the side of the road the next time we pass one.

My mother-in-law, Sloan, and Sid hold a conference inside the Buc-ee’s in Florence, South Carolina. After much deliberation, Sloan decided not to get the Buc-ee’s sweatshirt she is wearing in the photo.
Not bad for a Sunday, right? However, despite all of that fun, the best part of the day was pulling into my in-laws’ driveway late at night as it meant my wife was finally home. Don’t Blink.
