The time has arrived for the annual Don’t Blink costume reveal. Each year I share the overpriced (usually) outfits my kids chose to wear for Halloween. So in the same way that we find out whether or not the main character in a Halloween horror film survives, let’s kill the suspense…

In 2026, Sloan is Hermione and Beau is an inflatable dinosaur.

Starting with the board game adage of “the youngest always goes first”, let me share with you Beau’s 2026 costume…

I was less than thrilled with Beau’s choice of Halloween costume this year.

He is a blow up dinosaur. And I am not happy.

I am so sick of the inflatable t-rex costumes. In fact, back in 2024 I went on-record declaring my distaste. I just feel like they ran their course a decade ago and are now just annoying, cliché, and burdensome. I tried to convey as much to my son when we were in Spirit but my concerns fell on deaf ears.

I don’t like the dino costumes. They can be difficult to manage but Sloan has been a huge help assisting Beau with putting it on.

So I have to live with it. But I guess Halloween isn’t about me anyway, right? Okay Beau, live your best dino life in that ridiculous and unreliable costume. 😉

With Sloan’s 2026 costume, I am much more neutral. In homage to her love of the Harry Potter book series, she chose the female star…

This year, Sloan is Hermione for Halloween.

Yep, Sloan is Hemione. And I am 100% fine with that. Although I never embraced the Harry Potter books like some of my friends did, I think it is terrific that she is dressing up as a literary character.

After last year’s complimentary costume choices, Beau and Sloan are definitely an odd dinosaur/witch duo in 2026. But like I have already said, Halloween isn’t about me. The kids should be able to freely choose their costume (within reason), even if it doesn’t make a lot of sense when they are standing next to each other for the annual photo.

The Reser children broke in their costumes this past weekend at various Halloween shindigs. Surprisingly, Beau didn’t experience too many technical difficulties as an inflatable t-rex and Sloan didn’t spill anything on her sweater. They are primed and ready for Halloween festivities at their school and they are stoked for the main event on Saturday evening!

Even though I am learning to tolerate Beau’s costume, I don’t think I will be as prone to re-purpose his costume next year as I usually am. When it comes to Sloan, hopefully she will be Hermione until she reaches high school 😂. Don’t Blink.
